random thoughts...

the world seems to work in a backwards fashion sometimes, for example:

in order to "get ahead" in life one is thought to need a degree of some kind...
but in order to "get ahead" one must first "get behind" (in other words one must get a loan for the opportunity to get ahead)

and this one i particularly like...

in order to get a job you are qualified for, but have little experience in, one must have experience to get this job, but when nobody wants to give you the experience to get this job, you will rarely in the future actually get the job you're qualified for cause you must first have the experience...

that's all i suppose...

been a while huh?

well... sorry i didnt let y'all know earlier, but i did end up getting a job. i now work for the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino, yea not my first choice for a job, but its a job none the less.

started working there about 3 weeks ago, and as of last night know how to do everything there in the kitchen, except cook... so far not so hot considering cooking is what i do, but i don't plan on staying long, its a job, not exactly what im looking for to jump-start my career.

but, i got a job, good news, make some decent money aside from the 100 mile a day commute.

*sigh*

being unemployed is quite boring...

so far i've spent the past few weeks sitting on my butt trying to find a job.. had one interview for a sales position last week, no call back from them so i assume i don't qualify for a second interview.. and that was my only job lead...

so unemployed for almost 3 weeks and i can seem to find anything for jobs around my degree field, or anything that i could easily do for that matter...

guess i'm gonna need a lot of patience huh?

well, one thing seems to be true...

Things always seem to get worse before they get better... (PS, this might be a long entry)

just about an hour and a half into my shift monday night i got fired... in my opinion due to no fault of my own, ignorance drives me crazy!

so when i started working for these guys it seemed like a piece of cake, i mean, flipping burgers for a living and making 9/hr? doesnt sound like a bad job right? opportunities out the wazzoo to advance, if i got sick of one job i could possibly switch to another possition in the building, sounded pretty good to me... so i took it, a couple weeks after quit at pizza hut cause schedules just wouldnt allow me to work there and the new job at the same time.
(this is where the ______ started hit the fan)
well... soon did i realize that place is a flippin soap opera for cryin out loud, he said she said is everywhere, and its really hard not to become of victim of it, or get involved in it or anything, its rediculous... anyway not knowing this or not listening to people warn me about the place i (as a team player) entrust peopole to whom i shouldnt have put my trust... one person in particular to whom i had to work with every day (the least of pleasant people to be around, but in the begining he was rather nice to me). so one day it turns out that "i had cooked some chicken" and an employee came in and took it to make himself something to eat and found that it wasnt cooked all the way. now i'm kinda new, the chicken is harder than heck to cook properly sometimes so i made sure from that point forward that i wouldnt let it happen again.. so i get called into the office to get yelled at for it (to which i expected), boss gave me lecture about it, all stuff i knew but she had to say it anyway, and of course i play along... then she mentions something about burgers not being cooked properly either, which is definately to my dismay... i replied that "really??!!!? my burgers? thats highly improbable, i've checked every burger just as i was taught and i just dont see how thats possible..." (here's where i really screwed up) well i admitted that logically it could have been me, because it did fall on my shift, so told here it wouldnt happen again, blah blah, end of story... or so i thought...

(now the _____ really hit the fan)
later realizing that it was my co-worker, to whom like i said works with me every night, cause later i realized and remembered distinctly that he did say "its ok if the burger is just a little pink in the center, they wont taste the difference" (and that is a direct qote, i'm not making it up) but because i didnt wanna cause any trouble i just let it slide. from that point forward i made it a point to actually over cook everything slightly to over emphasize that if it happened again that it couldnt have possibly been me, and made proper documentation to prove it. well not too much later we started running into a lot of students complaining that the chicken wasnt cooked properly, and it was "pink" 6 or 8 complaints later we finaly get to see what they're actually talking about and realize that its not the chicken not being cooked, cause its obviously cooked properly, its the grill that puts a red coloration under the skin due to heat, and the steam table that keeps it hot for us is causing the red to seep into the rest of the chicken... so last month i get called into the office cause i actually did screw up once cause i wasnt even really thinking... my mind was on a different matter really bad that day... anyway, get called into the office for some "pink burgers" and get a 20 day probationary period extension because EVERY complaint about those chickens (that were nobody's fault) were put into my folder, and cause i didnt speak up for myself before there are almost a dozen reports in my file about things not being cooked properly, so i get a verbal reprimand, and a 20 day probation extention. (that pissed me off and at that point had lost all respect for my managers that just didnt know what in the heck was going on and they thought they didnt know anything...)

so quickly here's how it works, when you start working for PACES once you've been successfuly granted a job you have 100 WORKING DAYs, not callendar days probation, where they could fire you for basically any reason and not tell you why. so in contract they had every right because of my "innability to perform properly" to extend that by 20 days, while they found a real reason to fire me and thats exactly what they did. but they weren't man (or womanly) enough, or professional enough to tell me what the real reason was.

so yes, i'm now unemployed, again. i'm still searching for a job, and so far its not promising.. i think i'm gonna have to try some new tactics...

I URGE ALL OF YOU, unless you want drama, and back stabbing out the wazzoo, and more headaches and stress from it all. DO NOT WORK FOR PACES (potsdam auxiliary educational and catering services) Suny Potsdam. its not worth it.
